Students will be learning all 70 phonograms and their corresponding sounds, as well as proper letter formation and handwriting. For a list of the phonograms and their sounds, click here. To hear the phonogram sounds, click here. (Please note, we have added a fourth sound for "o" and "y", as per the Riggs institute.
Students will also be learning how to "mark" words with symbols that indicate which sounds a phonogram should say in a word. For a list of the markings and spalding rules, click here
Students are quizzed daily on their phonograms, as well as weekly on their spelling words.
Students will learn 10 words a day, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. On Thursday students will be given a pre-test review, and will be tested on Friday for all 30 words.
